It was exactly ten years ago that the permanent exhibition, "The Grassalkovich Era" was opened in the Royal Palace of Gödöllő. Today we are glad to announce that there is a new permanent exhibition on display in the Gisella wing, which has been restored thanks to European Union funding. The exhibition recalls the days spent in Gödöllo by the royal children, King Charles IV and the Horthy family. It also presents the military commander-in-chief’s bedroom from the communist era of Hungary as well as the residence and the Soviet military base.

In addition, the exhibition shows the progress of reconstruction work in the palace, started in 1980 and still underway, as well as the location of the EU presidential conferences held in Gödöllő. Besides the magnificent interior of the Palace, visitors will find interactive tools as well. The history of the corner room, which also operates as a show-room, is introduced with a model working like a time machine. The exhibition cases reveal peculiar treasures, objects and photos.
The corridor of the Gisella wing is decorated with a picture gallery of the members of the Habsburg family, from Maria Theresa to Queen Elisabeth. The portraits of the highly respected ‘Nádor branch’ and their family are of particular interest.
The items on loan in this unique exhibition in Hungary come from the widowed crown princess Stefania’s legacy and are now owned by the Pannonhalma Archabbey. The picture gallery is further enhanced by paintings from the Hungarian National Museum, the Budapest History Museum and the Cistercian Abbey of Zirc.
